WHAT IS THE TECK MINE?
Teck Resources Ltd has proposed the Frontier Project, the largest open pit oil sands mine. The Frontier Project will be located on the west side of the Athabasca River approximately 110 kilometers (km) north of Fort McMurray and 165 km south of Fort Chipewyan. It is about 16 kilometres away from the Poplar Point IR 201G.

The Frontier mine will displace over 29,000 hectares of land, produce 260,000 barrels of oil/day, create up to 6Mt of GHG emissions/yr, while infringing and displacing the rights of Indigenous peoples.
The proposed development includes: two open pit mines (the main development area and the south development area); an ore preparation plant; bitumen extraction plants and a bitumen froth treatment plant; tailings preparation and management facilities; cogeneration and heat integration facilities; steam and hot water generation facilities; and support infrastructure including disposal and storage areas, river water intake, roads, airfield, and camp.
