The first Indigenous Climate Action: Indigenous Peoples’ Meeting on Climate Change was held in January 2016 in the heart of Treaty No. 6, Amiskwaciwâskahikan, Edmonton. This meeting set the stage for Indigenous Climate Action by inviting Indigenous leaders from across Canada to come together to discuss climate change and the unique rights of Indigenous peoples.
Since then ICA has made it a priority to continue engaging Indigenous peoples and ally organizations in hosting events, in person and online. ICA gatherings serve to build community driven organizational direction while bringing Indigenous peoples together to demand our rights are included in climate change solutions.
